El fabricante chino Yoison ha creado una especie de carcasa capaz de convertir un simple iPod Touch en un iPhone, sin que ello suponga un aumento de volumen significativo y sólo por 57 dólares (menos de 45 euros).
Se trata de la ‘Apple Peel 520′ y es fruto del ingenio de un programador de 22 años de la ciudad sureña de Shenzshen. El peculiar gadget consiste en una caja que, a modo de segunda piel, se coloca alrededor del exterior del iPod Touch y lo convierte en un teléfono.
La ‘carcasa’ consta de una batería, un conector de base y una tarjeta SIM que permite realizar llamadas de voz. Ahora bien, para lograr que el reproductor funcione como un iPhone, los usuarios tendrán que instalar un software especial que permite enviar mensajes de texto y hace que el dispositivo funcione correctamente.
Además, en un análisis realizado por ‘Dailytech’ sobre un prototipo afirman que, una vez instalada, la ‘Apple Peel 520′ logra una autonomía de cinco horas de conversación y 120 horas en espera. Otros análisis señalan también la presencia de algunos problemas técnicos relacionados con el 3G y un pequeño retardo en las llamadas.
En declaraciones del inventor recogidas por ‘Portaltic’ de ‘CNN’, éste afirma que lo que le impulso a crear este gadget es que le “encanta el iPhone”, pero es “demasiado caro en China”. Y es que, con esta carcasa cualquiera puede tener un iPhone por poco más de 200 euros (el iPod Touch se comercializa desde 189 euros).
El creador comenzó a trabajar en el invento en abril, pero la línea final del producto no se conoció hasta el mes pasado de la mano de la compañía tecnológica Yosion. En la actualidad el dispositivo está disponible para su compra online, a través, por ejemplo, de eBay.com.
Hasta hace diez días, sólo se habían solicitado en preventa 150 de estos dispositivos a través del portal de venta online chino ‘Taobao.com’; dos de las solicitudes provenían de webs de tecnología.
Respecto a la posibilidad de vender el producto masivamente, el creador asegura no tener “planes detallados” si bien señala que le gustaría conocer si Apple está interesada en el producto. Es más, según CNN, les solicitó que le pusieran en contacto con el CEO de Apple, Steve Jobs, pero no les fue posible.
Ahora bien, no se trata de la única ‘piel de iPhone’ para el iPod Touch, existe otro gadget, el ‘tPhone’, que, siguiendo una idea similar a la ‘Apple peel 520′, aumenta la duración de la batería del dispositivo, aunque también el tamaño y el precio (cuesta unos 80 euros).
