Apple continúa la lucha contra el ‘jailbreak’ de sus dispositivos, esta vez mediante la solicitud de patente de un sistema que bloquea las funciones de los terminales si alguien intenta liberarlos para instalar aplicaciones no autorizadas por la empresa.
Tras lanzar una actualización de emergencia hace poco más de una semana para el iOs 4.0.2. (versión 3.2.2 para el iPad) para anular el ‘jailbreak’ a sus dispositivos mediante la vulnerabilidad detectada en el lector de PDF de Safari Mobile; Apple sigue luchando para que los usuarios sólo puedan instalar aplicaciones no aprobadas por la compañía.
La patente, bautizada como ‘Sistemas y Métodos para la identificación de usuarios no autorizados de un dispositivo electrónico’ contempla una serie de medidas de seguridad para proteger de forma automática los dispositivos de “ladrones” y “otros usuarios no autorizados”, según recoge ‘Portaltic’ de ‘CNET’.
Así, la aplicación que pretende patentar la compañía de la manzana — presentada en febrero de 2009 y publicada este jueves — describe medidas para identificar “las actividades particulares que pueden indicar un comportamiento sospechoso”.
Estas actividades sospechosas incluyen la “piratería informática, el ‘jailbreak’, el desbloqueo o la retirada de la tarjeta SIM”; de tal manera que si se detecta alguna de ellas, la aplicación puede limitar las funciones del dispositivo.
Sin embargo, la posibilidad de que las funciones del dispositivo se bloqueen tras un intento de jailbreak resulta algo sorprendente, ya que ya que se estaría ‘protegiendo’ a los dispositivos de una actividad que EE.UU. legalizó el mes pasado.
Y es que, a finales de julio, la oficina de propiedad intelectual de EE.UU. emitió una ley de excepciones a los derechos de autor, ofreciendo protección jurídica a las personas que desbloqueen sus teléfonos inteligentes, como el iPhone de Apple.
El software también expone una serie de medidas que podrían emplearse para ayudar a identificar a usuarios no autorizados. Entre ellas se encuentra la activación de una cámara que permitiría comparar la identidad del usuario que esté empleando el dispositivo con la de los usuarios autorizados.
