La unidad japonesa de Apple reemplazará cualquier reproductor portátil iPod nano que se recaliente, dijo el miércoles la firma en un comunicado, lo que mejora la anterior oferta de sustituir sólo las baterías.
La concesión llegó después de que el Ministerio de Comercio de Japón colocara bajo examen a la empresa y le ordenara publicar un comunicado “fácil de entender” en el que explicara la forma en que los usuarios de los dispositivos podrían cambiar las baterías y recibir asesoramiento.
Los modelos de primera generación, vendidos entre septiembre de 2005 y diciembre de 2006, han protagonizado unos 60 incidentes de recalentamiento en Japón, incluidos cuatro casos de quemaduras leves, según el Ministerio de Economía, Comercio e Industria (METI, por sus siglas en inglés).
Apple describió los incidentes como “muy poco frecuentes” y ha culpado del problema a su único proveedor de baterías, que no ha sido identificado.
“Hemos trabajado estrechamente con METI (el ministerio) para asegurarnos de que los usuarios del iPod nano de primera generación que están preocupados por sus baterías tengan la información más reciente”, había dicho el portavoz de la firma, Tom Neumayr, a principios de agosto.
METI dijo que era “verdaderamente lamentable” que Apple no comunicara hasta el domingo que había habido unos 30 casos de incidentes de recalentamiento.
