El Ministerio de Comercio de Japón ha dicho que había ordenado a la unidad nipona de Apple que explique unos incidentes de sobrecalentamiento de algunos modelos de su primera generación de reproductores portátiles de música iPod nano.
La división japonesa de Apple, que recientemente ha superado a Microsoft como la mayor compañía tecnológica por valor de mercado, tiene de plazo hasta el 4 de agosto para aportar los detalles sobre las causas del sobrecalentamiento y demostrar que ha adoptado pasos para evitar que suceda de nuevo dentro y fuera de Japón, dijo el Ministerio.
Se han producido 27 incidentes de sobrecalentamiento en Japón, entre ellos cuatro casos que provocaron quemaduras leves en los usuarios, ha dicho Seiji Shimagami, portavoz del Ministerio de Economía, Comercio e Industria.
El ministerio ha pedido en repetidas ocasiones a Apple que facilite información sobre las medidas preventivas que ha adoptado hasta la fecha, ha dicho, añadiendo que basándose en la respuesta de Apple, podría incluso solicitar una retirada del modelo afectado.
“Básicamente, las advertencias sobre el problema pueden no haber sido suficiente. Creo que dependerá de la respuesta que obtengamos, (la empresa) podría tener que ofrecer cambiar las unidades que no están defectuosas como las que lo están”, indicó Shimagami.
La compañía dijo en un comunicado en su web que el asunto había sido investigado hasta un único suministrador de batería, y que la seguridad era una importante prioridad para Apple.
“Estamos tomándonos la carta del METI respecto a la primera generación de iPod nano muy seriamente y estamos trabajando de cerca con ellos para responder sus inquietudes”, ha agregado Apple.
