Parrot ha presentado la versión final de Parrot AR.Drone, su cuadricóptero con tecnología de realidad aumentada y pilotado mediante iPod touch, iPhone o iPad que causó unaa gran admiración en su primera aparición en público, en el CES 2010.
Con Parrot AR.Drone, y su manejo tan intuitivo, es fácil realizar vuelos espectaculares y jugar con la tecnología de realidad aumentada. Ya es posible pilotar un cuadricóptero único gracias a la unión del mundo real y virtual, y disfrutar de una increíble experiencia de juego.
La cámara colocada en la parte frontal del aparato capta y transmite todo lo que ve a la pantalla del iPod touch o iPhone, y gracias al sistema de procesamiento de imágenes, se integran efectos especiales de realidad aumentada.
Un modelo ergonómico patentado para pilotar
Parrot AR.Drone, compuesto por una cabina preformada y propulsada por 4 rotores, cada uno de ellos provisto de un motor sin escobillas, ofrece unas posibilidades espectaculares de pilotaje, una excelente maniobrabilidad y una estabilidad extraordinaria.
Parrot AR.Drone genera su propia red wifi (sin necesidad de conexión a internet ni router) a la que basta conectarse con un iPod touch o iPhone. Una vez descargada la aplicación “AR.FreeFlight”, el iPod touch/iPhone se convierte en una verdadera cabina de mando.
Existen dos modos de pilotaje:
- Beginner (Principiante): dos botones táctiles para controlar el acelerómetro y la dirección del aparato y hacer piruetas.
- Ace (Experto): modo experto con un solo botón táctil para pilotar el cuadricóptero.
Al pulsar el botón de despegue en la pantalla del iPod touch/iPhone, Parrot AR.Drone arranca motores, despega del suelo y se estabiliza a varios centímetros, a la espera de las instrucciones del piloto.
El jugador debe entonces colocar el pulgar izquierdo sobre la pantalla, bajo el que aparece un botón de control. El acelerómetro del iPod touch/iPhone detecta los movimientos. Parrot AR.Drone se mueve hacia delante, atrás o de lado dependiendo de la inclinación del iPod touch/iPhone.
Con otro botón situado a la derecha de la pantalla del iPod touch/iPhone, se puede hacer que el AR.Drone realice acciones como subir, bajar o rotar.
En el modo experto, se puede controlar y pilotar completamente el AR.Drone con un solo botón.

Las cámaras te revelarán los secretos del vuelo
En el corazón del AR.Drone se encuentran los MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), un acelerómetro de 3 ejes, dos girómetros (de 1 y 2 ejes), un sensor de ultrasonidos y dos cámaras.
La primera cámara, colocada bajo la estructura, está conectada a la Unidad de medición de inercia, gracias a la cual el AR.Drone es capaz de medir la velocidad horizontal y realizar increíbles vuelos estacionarios. El sistema de comparación de imágenes permite compensar las turbulencias causadas por el viento en los vuelos exteriores.
Estas tecnologías, normalmente empleadas por aplicaciones profesionales y militares, han sido adaptadas por primera vez al mundo de los juegos. La segunda cámara, en la parte frontal del cuadricóptero, recoge y transmite a la pantalla del iPod touch/iPhone lo que ve el aparato desde la posición del piloto.
La cámara cumple una función importante en los videojuegos gracias al reconocimiento de formas, permitiendo el uso de la realidad aumentada. Por ejemplo, reconoce a un AR.Drone enemigo en las batallas entre dos cuadricópteros, o a las etiquetas que se convertirán en obstáculos, monstruos o robots en la pantalla del iPod touch/iPhone.
La reproducción de vídeo ha sido mejorada desde la versión de desarrollo presentada en el CES 2010. El frontal del casco ha sido reforzado para una mejor protección de la cámara.
El jugador puede elegir la cámara que prefiera o reproducir la imagen de las dos cámaras a la vez en la pantalla del iPod touch/iPhone

Al AR Drone sólo le falta poder ser usado por todo tipo de smartphones, pero imagino que será posible en un futuro, no?
Tengo entendido que lo va a vender sólo Media Mark y que sale el 27. No sé si es una fecha apropiada para un lanzamiento así, pero con todo, habrá muchos freaks que vayan ese día para ser los primeros en probarlo. A mí me llama mucho la atención, pero me esperaré a ver qué dicen de él.
