PDX-50 destaca por integrar la tecnología Air Wired patentada por Yamaha. Un sistema que la firma emplea para la transmisión de audio profesional y que se caracteriza por enviar los datos descomprimidos. Así, el sonido se reproduce con una gran calidad y no se produce pérdida de señal, tal y como ocurre con otro tipo de equipos que emplean la tecnología Bluetooth® y sí envían los datos comprimidos.
Y para ponerlo en marcha, tan sólo hay que situar el reproductor portátil sobre el transmisor de señal y se activa solo. Desde ese momento, el altavoz reproduce la música o el audio de vídeos y películas en tiempo real, a una distancia de hasta 10 metros y con una perfecta sincronización.
Una ventaja que aporta este sistema es que el altavoz se puede colocar en cualquier parte de la sala y el transmisor acompañar al usuario allá donde esté. Una característica muy importante que proporciona una increíble comodidad y permite, por ejemplo, contestar las llamadas telefónicas del iPhone sin tener que desplazarse hasta la base para recuperarlo. Por su parte, funciones como subir o bajar el volumen o adelantar y retrasar pistas se controlan igualmente desde el propio MP3. Y cuando se descarga la batería del reproductor, es posible situar el transmisor inalámbrico sobre la base de carga y continuar disfrutando de la música.
En cuanto a sus prestaciones técnicas, PDX-50 dispone de dos altavoces de 8 cm que ofrecen una potencia de 15 w cada uno y un rango de frecuencia que oscila entre 60 Hz y 20 kHz. Así, proporcionan una respuesta de graves dinámica y un sonido nítido y potente. A ello se suma un amplificador original Yamaha, con el que se obtiene un nivel de ruido y distorsión extremadamente bajo. Finalmente, la serie PDX se encuentra disponible en cuatro tonalidades diferentes: negro, rosa, gris y azul.
