La operadora de telefonía celular Verizon Wireless inició una intensa campaña publicitaria por televisión en Estados Unidos para promover un paquete de programas de computadora fabricado por Google compatibles con teléfonos Android, que podría convertirse en el reto más fuerte hasta ahora para el iPhone de Apple.
Los anuncios publicitarios para el teléfono inteligente “Droid”, fabricado por Motorola, hablan de que el nuevo aparato incluye recursos tecnológicos de los que carece el iPhone, como un teclado fuera de la pantalla y la capacidad de correr programas simultáneamente.
El comercial concluye con el estribillo “Todo lo que (el iPhone) no tiene, lo tiene el Droid”.
No es la primera vez que un aviso publicitario de un teléfono celular hace mella en las debilidades del iPhone.
Previamente, fueron los comerciales de Sprint Nextel cuando anunciaba el Samsung Instinct y el Palm Pre que eran comparados abiertamente con el iPhone.
En esta ocasión, sin embargo, los anuncios de Verizon llegan en un momento díficil para Apple, no por el terminal en sí sino por la conducta de la operadora que tiene la exclusiva en los EEUU, AT&T.
Verizon Wireless se destaca entre las preferencias del público por la excelente calidad de su amplia red, pero hasta ahora carecía de un teléfono “inteligente” que pudiera competir con el iPhone fácil de usar y su amplia gama de programas provistos por terceros.

Verizon no es la única operadora en vender móviles Android en los EEUU. Tanto Sprint como T-Mobile cuentan con sendos dispositivos basados en este sistema operativo aunque, según Verizon, este es el más avanzado en el uso de esta tecnología.
Aunque los comerciales no muestran el nuevo teléfono, ni revelan el precio o una fecha de lanzamiento más específica que “noviembre”, el sitio cibernético www.droiddoes.com envía a los interesados a otra página de Motorola
