Aunque el iPod nano es uno de los dispositivos más utilizados para hacer ejercicio, y la llegada del nuevo modelo con grabación de video es para los usuarios una gran ventaja, los gimnasios estadounidenses consideran que esta función se puede convertir en una amenaza para la privacidad de las gimnastas de estos centros.
Así, el iPod nano 5G de Apple fue declarado como dispositivo no grato en muchos gimnasios de EE.UU., donde se prohibió entrar con el equipo a hacer deporte. En realidad, la quinta generación del iPod fue sumada a la lista de artículos vetados por estos establecimientos, ya que no se permite el ingreso de ninguno con el que se pueda grabar.
Sin embargo, distinguir entre un iPod nano de la anterior generación (sin videocámara) y uno de los nuevos (con videocámara) es muy complicado, porque a simple vista tienen el mismo aspecto y si se le pone una funda, son prácticamente idénticos.
Otro problema es que con el iPod Nano 5G es difícil saber si la persona está grabando o simplemente adelantando una canción.
Por sus características y su tamaño, el reproductor de la firma de la manzana es uno de los más utilizados por los amantes del deporte, ya que es suficientemente liviano como para no molestar durante el ejercicio, tiene suficiente memoria, y también es compatible con el sistema Nike+ que permite monitorear el ejercicio junto con un aparato que se ubica en las zapatillas de los deportistas.
Si hace algún tiempo fueron las cámaras de fotos y las grabadoras las que se restringieron en estos lugares para preservar la privacidad de los usuarios, ahora le toca el turno al iPod nano 5G. Si esta decisión se extiende y se propaga el ejemplo, ¿se quedará Apple sin alguna que otra venta?
