La compañía, especializada en la fórmula “streaming” (oír un archivo directamente en una web sin necesidad de descargarlo antes al ordenador), ha remitido la idea a la tienda de música virtual iTunes, del gigante Apple, para obtener su aprobación.
Si iTunes da luz verde, el servicio de Spotify estará disponible para que los usuarios lo descarguen en el iPhone (el celular de Apple).
Según la BBC, la empresa escandinava es conocida como “un mata-iTunes” por su facilidad de uso y su extensa biblioteca gratuita de millones de canciones.
La nueva aplicación que quiere poner en marcha Spotify está diseñada para buscar nueva música y permitirá a los usuarios almacenar temporalmente en sus móviles listas de canciones para utilizarlas cuando no haya conexión.
La aplicación será gratuita, pero requerirá una suscripción especial para su uso, de acuerdo con la BBC.
La empresa sueca, que salió el mercado el pasado año, cuenta ya con más de seis millones de clientes en Europa (dos de ellos en el Reino Unido) y aspira a desembarcar en Estados Unidos a final de año.
