El último modelo del celular de Apple, el iPhone 3G S, ya salió a la venta en siete países, y los más fanáticos se han deleitado analizando cada detalle del nuevo dispositivo.
Y una de las cosas que ha llamado la atención en varios blogs, es que este teléfono, que se diferencia de su antecesor principalmente por ser más rápido (de ahí su nombre, “S” de Speed, velocidad en inglés), es que podría ser aún más rápido.
Porque como se ha dicho, las diferencias más importantes no son tan notorias y van por dentro. Por eso, muchos se apresuraron en obtener el suyo apenas salió a la venta el viernes pasado, pero no para probarlo, sino que para abrirlo.
En su interior tiene un procesador Samsung S5PC100, y según lo que descubrieron quienes descuartizaron al teléfono para ver qué escondía, es que funciona sólo a un 72% de su capacidad. El sistema puede correr a una velocidad de 833 Mhz –según las especificaciones del fabricante-, pero está optimizado en el iPhone para hacerlo a 667 Mhz. Esto, seguramente fue estipulado por Apple para ahorrar batería.
Otros descubrimientos es que el chip también puede grabar video en 720p –es decir, en alta definición-, y que la memoria es de 256MB, el doble de capacidad que la versión anterior.
Prueba de velocidad
Las comparaciones son inevitables, y con los dos dispositivos más esperados recientemente lanzados, las pruebas de velocidad entre el Palm Pre y el iPhone 3G S no se hicieron esperar.
En un test realizado por el sitio AnandTech, el iPhone 3G S resultó ser el más rápido, con un 11% más de velocidad que el Palm Pre a la hora de acceder a diferentes sitios. Pero el iPhone también demostró superarse a sí mismo: fue un 122% más rápido que el 3G, lo que confirma que realmente se mejoró la velocidad con respecto a su versión anterior. Algo similar ocurrió al encender el teléfono y al correr diferentes aplicaciones.
Una prueba más gráfica es la que hizo CNet, quien en un video puso los tres aparatos a competir en vivo. El iPhone 3G, el 3G S y el Palm Pre fueron enfrentados a diferentes retos como prenderse, sacar una foto y enviarla, o cargar una página web, donde los resultados dieron por ganador al Palm Pre en dos de las tres pruebas.
