Id Software diseñó una versión del popular título para el teléfono de Apple: el aspecto es similar al del Doom 3, lanzado en el 2005.
La compañía tiene entre sus planes desarrollar títulos para el iPhone/iPod touch buscando de esa manera recuperar el papel que tuvo en la industria de videojuegos para PC.
Entre las próximas novedades anunciadas figura una versión de Doom que debería llegar durante julio a la App Store, aunque conociendo a la empresa y su capacidad para cumplir los plazos no sería nada extraño que se retrasase.
Según John Carmack, co-fundador de Id Software, la aplicación correría en los iPhone y iPod Touch con OS 2 x. De todas maneras la empresa planea desarrollar títulos para la reciente actualización OS 3.x, lanzada hace unos días.
Como aliciente para todos los entusiastas del juego, este será publicado bajo código abierto, permitiendo a los desarrolladores y entusiastas crear sus propios niveles y accesorios.
“La gente podrá emplear nuestra iniciativa como referencia para desarrollar nuevos juegos para iPhone”, dijo Carmack a la publicación Mac World. El ejecutivo aseguró que intentarán desarrollar otros títulos clásicos de Id Software como Quake 3 y Orcs & Elves para iPhones y iPods.
