El anuncio, que ha tenido lugar durante el evento Citrix Synergy 2009, permite a los departamentos TI entregar entornos desktop y aplicaciones como un servicio bajo demanda a cualquier dispositivo que corra con Windows ubicado en cualquier lugar.
Para entregar los entornos desktop y aplicaciones, el departamento TI debe contar con software de la plataforma Citrix Delivery Center (utilizada por más de 200.000 organizaciones), como la solución Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix Access Gateway o Branch Repeater.
“Esto permite a los responsables TI tener un control total sobre la seguridad, el rendimiento y la experiencia de los usuarios finales, entregando y gestionando servicios bajo demanda desde una ubicación central sin importar el tipo de dispositivo o dónde se encuentre”, continúa el responsable de Citrix.
Además, con el fin de simplificar la monitorización de los entornos virtuales, Citrix Receiver viene acompañado de la herramienta gratuita Citrix Merchandising Server, un nuevo componente servidor que administra la configuración inicial del software y proporciona una gestión centralizada de los plug-ins instalados sobre cada dispositivo móvil.

Además de estar disponible para dispositivos Windows, Citrix Receiver funciona también con los terminales iPhone y iPod de Apple, y puede descargarse de manera gratuita desde la tienda on line App Store del fabricante.
La nueva aplicación proporciona a los usuarios de dispositivos iPhone y terminales iPod acceso a sus aplicaciones Windows y documentos desde cualquier lugar, además de aprovechar todas las ventajas de las interfaces táctiles de Apple..
El software se ofrecerá también para plataformas Mac OS X, Windows Mobile y Symbian OS.
