El iPhone 3G y la estrategia global de lanzamiento de Apple han sido las claves definitivas para que el popular teléfono termine de despegar. Las impresionantes cifras iniciales de ventas llevaron a consultoras de todo el mundo a pronosticar ventas millonarias, a cada cual más halagüeña.

Cuando el nuevo iPhone 3G llegó a 22 países de forma simultánea el pasado 11 de julio, incluida España, la industria de la tecnología de consumo se sorprendió con la cifra alcanzada por Apple en tan solo un fin de semana: un millón de unidades. Entonces, la compañía esperaba vender alrededor de 30 millones de unidades en todo el mundo un año (hasta julio de 2009) pero la creciente aceptación del aparato hicieron que se replanteará sus previsiones.
Según recogió Otr/press de BusinessWeek, Apple decidió potenciar su línea de producción. Así, ahora se ha fijado una nueva meta: entre 40 y 45 millones de unidades que se venderían de aquí a agosto de 2009, según relata la publicación económica citando a una fuente conocedora de los planes de mercado de la compañía de la manzana. En este sentido, menciona también que actualmente Apple produce 150.000 iPhones diarios, lo que con una actividad de cinco días semanales durante 52 semanas (364 días) da la cifra de 39 millones de unidades.
Más países, más ventas
Esta espectacular cifra va aún más lejos que otras nada tacañas que habían facilitado consultoras como Piper Jaffray, que auguraba unas ventas de 26 millones anuales entre este mes de agosto y el próximo. Uno de sus analistas, Gene Munster, explicó que Apple vendería 13 millones en 2008 y otros 45 en 2009. Por su parte, Apple no confirma estas cifras y se limita a reiterar que esperan alcanzar la cantidad de 10 millones para el nuevo modelo de iPhone antes de que termine 2008.
Otro analista, Michael Cote, de Cote Collaborative, aventuró que el dispositivo vendería 3 millones de unidades en su primer mes, cuando aún estaría “sólo” disponible en 22 países, los del lanzamiento inicial. Sin embargo, para alcanzar la espectacular cifra de 40-45 millones vendidos en un año será capital aumentar la presencia del iPhone 3G en más territorios. Por eso durante este mes de agosto, el teléfono llegará a otros 20 países.
Sin embargo, la distribución del iPhone 3G no será el único obstáculo que tendrá que salvar la compañía; también tendrá que pulir problemas de funcionamiento como los defectos de llamadas que han estado afectando al dispositivo en las últimas semanas. En este sentido, una actualización parece que ya podría haber solucionado esta incidencia. Por otro lado, otra crítica es el tiempo que lleva activar el teléfono una vez que está en las tiendas: una media hora; aunque Apple ya podría estar trabajando en una solución que reduciría el tiempo a 15 minutos, según la consultora Needham & Co.
