La operadora confirma oficialmente la llegada del terminal a España el próximo 11 de julio
Un comunicado difundido esta noche en San Francisco confirmó lo que ya era un rumor a voces, Telefónica distribuirá el nuevo iPhone en exclusiva en España.
“El iPhone 3G ofrece nuevas características más avanzadas e innovadoras que su predecesor, y espero que tenga el mismo éxito en España que en Reino Unido e Irlanda con Telefónica O2″, señaló el presidente de la española, César Alierta, en un comunicado.
El comunicado de la operadora anuncia también la apertura de una página web, http://www.movistar.es/iphone, en la que los clientes podrán solicitar información sobre cómo adquirir el nuevo dispositivo. La página estará abierta a partir del 10 de junio, fecha en que Telefónica distribuirá el comunicado en España.

Aunque oficialmente Telefónica aún no ha comunicado el precio del terminal ni como será comercializado, fuentes cercanas a la operadora indican que este llegará al precio de 99 euros aunque a costa de una permanencia de 24 meses.

Telefónica and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Spain on July 11
MADRID and SAN FRANCISCO—June 9, 2008—Telefónica and Apple® today announced that they will bring the highly anticipated iPhone™ 3G to Spain on July 11. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast* as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.
“iPhone 3G offers new, more advanced and innovative features than its predecessor, and we expect it will have the same success in Spain as it has had in the UK and Ireland with Telefónica O2,” said César Alierta, Telefónica chairman.
“We’re excited to work with Telefónica, one of the world’s leading carriers, to bring iPhone 3G to Spain,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s COO. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary phone in the hands of even more people around the world.”
Telefónica’s 3G mobile network and Wi-Fi infrastructure in Spain are the most technologically advanced networks in Spain and offer the broadest coverage at present. They offer data download speeds of 7.2 Mbps on the HSDPA mobile network and more than 2,000 Wi-Fi hot spots.
Moreover, iPhone 3G will drive growth in Telefónica’s 3G customer base in Spain. Telefónica signed up more 3G customers than any operator in Spain in the fourth quarter of the last year and now services over 4.2 million devices.
iPhone 3G will sell in Telefónica’s top stores and more than 3,500 points of sale in Spain, first in Madrid in its new flagship store on Gran Via Street opening on July 8.
Mobile customers of Telefónica and of other operators in Spain wishing to know where, when and for how much they can acquire iPhone 3G may register at www.movistar.es/iphone.
Telefónica’s experience marketing iPhone in Europe, following the launch in the UK (November 2007) and later in Ireland (March 2008), has clearly been a success. Sales in the UK have been huge, fueling net adds (especially in the contract segment) since its launch, and enjoys the highest level of customer satisfaction of any handset on the market.

El iPhone 3G combina todas las características revolucionarias del iPhone, con el añadido de la red 3G, y es dos veces más rápido que la primera generación del iPhone. Además lleva incluido un GPS para integrar servicios móviles basados en la localización, el software 2.0, que incorpora soporte para Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, y en él funcionarán cientos de aplicaciones de terceros desarrolladas con el SDK iPhone.
El nuevo iPhone 3G se venderá en las tiendas Telefónica de toda España, en más de 1.000 puntos de venta en una primera fase, y en primer lugar en Madrid en la nueva tienda ‘Flagship’ que se inaugurará en los primeros días de julio en la calle Gran Vía, 28.
Para César Alierta, presidente de Telefónica, “El nuevo iPhone 3G, que empezaremos a vender en España a partir del viernes 11 de julio, añade además nuevas funcionalidades aún más avanzadas e innovadoras que su predecesor, y esperamos que sea un éxito, al igual que lo ha sido en Reino Unido e Irlanda con Telefónica O2”.

El nuevo iPhone de Apple utilizará la red móvil 3G y la infraestructura Wi-Fi de Telefónica en España. Ambas redes son las más avanzadas de España a nivel tecnológico, y con más cobertura de población en la actualidad, con velocidades de descarga de los datos de 7,2 Mbps para la red móvil HSDPA, y con más de 2.000 hot spots en la de tecnología Wi-Fi.
Además, con el nuevo dispositivo de Apple que próximamente se empezará a vender en España, la base de clientes 3G de Telefónica seguirá creciendo en nuestro país. Ya en el cuarto trimestre de 2007 Telefónica ha sido el operador que más clientes 3G ha incorporado, y en la actualidad cuenta con más de 4,2 millones de dispositivos.
Los clientes móviles Telefónica en España, y de otras compañías que operan en el mercado español que quieran ser informados acerca de dónde, cuándo y a qué precios adquirir los nuevos iPhone, podrán registrarse próximamente en www.movistar.es/iphone.
El balance de Telefónica en la distribución del iPhone en Europa,tras el lanzamiento del terminal en Reino Unido (Noviembre 2007) y posteriormente, en Irlanda (Marzo 2008), es sin duda una experiencia de éxito. Así, en Reino Unido, el terminal ha alcanzado elevados niveles de venta, lo que ha permitido impulsar la ganancia neta de clientes, especialmente de contrato, desde su lanzamiento, y presenta el mayor nivel de satisfacción de clientes de cualquier otro terminal lanzado en el mercado
